The solar cell crowdsale to power Hoërskool Delmas is off to a flying start. Here's the progress so far!
Hello Sultana,
Established in the 1950s and located in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa, this public secondary school has over 630 learners and is an English and Afrikaans language school. There are two hostels on the premises and a large range of sports activities are provided.
The solar plant will be equipped with a critical load battery backup to keep the school's operations running, even during power cuts.
Getting your first solar cells needn't be a big decision. Thanks to Sun Exchange's innovative micro-leasing model, you can get started with just a single solar cell.
Crowdsale progress
Here's an update on the crowdsale since it launched:
More than 60% of the solar cells have already been purchased
Around 10,326 solar cells are remaining out of the 26,208 available
Over 552 different buyers of solar cells from 52 countries
The 'Notice To Proceed' has been issued to the installer. This initiates the procurement process so that by the time the crowdsale ends all equipment should be in hand, and construction can start ASAP!
Each solar cell is forecast to generate 4.87 kWh of electricity in the first year.
In year one, your gross earnings per solar cell are estimated to be ZAR 12.01 (~USD 0.67), a rate which will escalate at an inflation beating CPI +2% each year for 20 years.
This is a fixed lease rate project, meaning your earnings are not variable according to season or other factors.
Total estimated 20-year earnings per cell are ZAR 377.76 (~USD 20.96) with an estimated IRR of 10.95%.
The solar plant will cut the school's energy bill, significantly reduce carbon emissions and give them access to electricity, even during power-cuts. By purchasing solar cells to power this project, you'll positively impact education in South Africa and earn with purpose for 20 years.
