The Daily Money

Thursday, December 31

Hey there, Daily Money readers! It's Josh again with today's newsletter.

Capping off the year in money news, 20 states and 32 cities and counties – including many in California – are set to raise their minimum wages on or about New Year's Day, according to a report provided exclusively to USA TODAY by the National Employment Law Project (NELP), a worker advocacy group. Our own Paul Davidson has all the details.

In related job news, the number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits fell by 19,000 but remain elevated at 787,000 as a resurgent coronavirus grips the U.S. economy.

And before you go, there are two product recalls you should be aware of:

Target recalls 480,000 infants' rompers, swimsuits over choking, pinching concerns

FDA recalls Sportmix pet food after 28 deaths and 8 illnesses in dogs

(If you're trying to get some shopping done on New Year's Day, here's a list of operation hours of the major retailers.)
