Pentagon will deploy up to 5,000 active-duty troops to Mexico border to halt migrant caravan, U.S. official says

  Officials said last week that they were considering a plan to send up to 1,000 active-duty troops to the border, but that deployment has increased to 5,000, according to an official at the the Department of Homeland Security. That's in addition to 2,100 National Guard troops already fanned out across the border.
