New Genomics and Health Disparities Lecture Tomorrow 8/30
On Thursday, August 30, 2018, join a lecture that is part of the Genomics and Health Disparities Lecture Series, a collaborative effort focused on exploring the role of genomics in achieving health equity. The lecture is presented by Dr. John Carpten, Ph.D., entitled, "Towards Understanding the Role of Population Diversity in Cancer Genome Science" from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. EST in the Lipsett Amphitheater of Building 10 on the NIH Main Campus in Bethesda, Maryland. This lecture will be webcast live.
Dr. Carpten is an internationally recognized expert on cancer genome science and an early pioneer in health disparities research investigating the role of biology in disparate incidence and mortality rates seen among underrepresented populations. His pursuit of better outcomes for cancer patients has included the application of high-throughput genomic technologies to interrogate the genomes and transcriptomes of tumors in a clinical setting to identify targetable events for select therapeutics.
The lecture is co-sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; the National Human Genome Research Institute; the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases; the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities; and the Office of Minority Health at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
