Happy Tuesday, OP fam. Keep up with the latest, subscribe here and let's do this.

Sorry, Jared

Trump son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner no longer has access to some classified information, after his interim security clearance was downgraded.

The move, confirmed Tuesday by officials, came as part of White House Chief of Staff John Kelly's revamping of the security clearance process . Kelly is working on improving the system after questions surfaced about the process when it was revealed staff secretary Rob Porter - who resigned earlier this month over domestic abuse allegations - did not have a full security clearance but continued to work closely with the president and had access to classified information.

So, can Kushner get his access back? Yes. His full background check just has to be completed.

And in the meantime, he'll still be able to do his job, Kelly said.

"As I told Jared days ago, I have full confidence in his ability to continue performing his duties in his foreign policy portfolio including overseeing our Israeli-Palestinian peace effort and serving as an integral part of our relationship with Mexico," the chief of staff said.

Paul Ryan: Gun control isn't the answer

House Speaker Paul Ryan has promised to move quickly on proposals that would prevent shootings akin to the Parkland, Fla., massacre from happening again.

But that doesn't mean he thinks the fix is gun control.

The Republican leader met with survivors of the Florida school shooting. Afterward, he said he was grateful that the students shared their stories.

"They have just experienced incredible tragedy, and we had an important discussion about how to keep our kids and our schools safe," he said. "We will continue to work to find common ground on solutions that can help prevent the kind of senseless violence these students endured."

But earlier in the day, he rejected calls for tighter gun restrictions. The issue isn't gun control, but law enforcement failure, he argued.

"There was a colossal breakdown in the system," he said.
