ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • Senator Nick Xenophon has negotiated with the Coalition to reverse a long-held policy and give Australian businesses an advantage in competing for taxpayer-funded projects. It means the Government should be able to get its ABCC legislation through the Senate

  • Brazil is in mourning after a chartered plane carrying Brazilian soccer team Chapecoense to the biggest match of its history crashed into a Colombian hillside, killing 75 people

  • Fire crews are investigating what triggered a gas explosion in Sydney's Chinatown that left 14 people injured, including two children

At the end of 2013, teachers at Bremer State High School in Queensland took a look at their results for Indigenous students, and the results were sobering. But the school put a focus on closing the education gap, and the results speak for themselves.

Here's what's coming up:

  • 7:30am AEDT: Nick Xenophon Team MP Rebekha Sharkie will be on News Breakfast

  • 8:05am AEDT: Senator Derryn Hinch will be on Radio National

  • 9:15am AEDT: A new display documenting the lives of Holocaust survivors who came to Australia will open at the Australian War Memorial

  • 10:00am AEDT: The official launch of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race will take place at the Sydney CYC

  • 7:30pm AEDT: Melbourne City will take on Sydney FC in the FFA Cup Final
