ABC NewsMail - Morning Edition

Good morning. Here's what's happening now:

  • There's another major development in the Four Corners story out of Malaysia. The team has followed the money trail and learned so much was being wired into the Malaysian PM's personal accounts, internal money-laundering alarms sounded. How much are we talking? More than $1 billion. There's evidence it was spent on diamonds, luxury cars and political funding

  • Shots have been fired at the US Capitol building in Washington DC and a police officer is injured. Our bureau chief Zoe Daniel is reporting it is an isolated incident. The city is busy with tourists at this time of year and although lockdowns have been lifted, the site of the shooting, the visitor centre, remains closed

Two major inquiries will have developments today. Here's some background:

  • The Sydney siege inquest is likely to hear from a hostage. It'll be the first evidence from someone held inside the Lindt Cafe

  • The Royal Commission into Family Violence in Victoria will hand its recommendations to the State Government. The head of Domestic Violence Victoria said the findings would be the "first step" and wants the "recommendations realised". Details are likely to be released to the public tomorrow

This feature story is a tale of family and culture told by beautiful photographs and a modern-day bride. Take a look inside this real life big fat Greek wedding.

  • Here's what's coming up:

    • 9:30am AEDT: A Newscastle man charged with murder is in court. His alleged victim had reportedly broken into his home

    • 10:00am AEDT: The Sydney siege inquest hearings continue

    • 12:30pm AEDT: WA Premier Colin Barnett will announce his Cabinet reshuffle
